2018-2019 WP+D Board Applications and Interviews

During the 2018-2019 term, WP+D will have 3 openings for Board of Directors positions. Being a member of WP+D's board is a great leadership opportunity oriented toward helping women in planning and development fields flourish in Chicago. It can be pretty fun, too.


The positions available for the upcoming term include Treasurer, Membership Chair and Marketing Chair. Please see the descriptions of each position below, as well as an overall description of all board positions.


Who should apply?

  • Anyone interested in getting more involved in WP+D who is a self-starter willing to work hard to see the organization thrive should apply. WP+D is an all-volunteer organization, so it is critical that the leadership be engaged and committed.

What are the responsibilities of board members?

  • Attend monthly Board meetings weeknights between 6PM-9PM at a downtown location.
  • Attend (2) half-day weekend or extended weekday planning retreats in the Chicago area.
  • Commit to actively attending and participating in most WP+D programming, such as Third Thursday WP+Drinks and professional development events.
  • Carry out the specific responsibilities of their officer or chair position. (details below)
  • Be willing and able to jump in on an as-needed basis to help handle issues that arise between board meetings; arrangements typically take place via email, so prompt response time over email is important.


What is the division of responsibility among board members?


OFFICERS

  • President: Generally oversees the operation of the board, prepares meeting agenda, follows through with chairs' activities, holds a WP+D credit card, has the final word on organizational decisions.
  • Vice President: Collaborates with the President to oversee and support board operations.
  • Secretary: Takes and publishes meeting minutes and follows up with task assignments.
  • Treasurer (open for 2018-2019)Responsible for non-profit filings, insurance, dealing with collecting and refunding (when necessary) membership dues and fees, and reporting on the organization's assets and liabilities.


CHAIRS

  • Professional Development Co-Chairs (2 positions): Plan, administer and moderate monthly small networking lunches (including identifying, inviting, and following up with high profile guests) and execute two larger-scale professional development events.
  • Programs Co-Chairs (2 positions): Reserve space and promote monthly WP+Drinks, attend Drinks as WP+D's ambassador to help people feel welcome and stimulate conversation, plan and execute the WP+D Holiday Party; execute at least one additional social or educational event.
  • Membership (1 position, open for 2018-2019)Monitor wpdchicago.com for back-end membership issues and WP+D email account, follow up with lapsed members, work to recruit new members (including corporate members), engage members about what they'd like to see from WP+D, and plan the annual membership picnic at the Pritzker Pavilion.
  • Marketing (1 position, open for 2018-2019): Coordinate promotion for WP+D events, manage website updates, collect and post event photos on social media, draft and publish communications, including the quarterly WP+D newsletter.

The 2018-2019 WP+D Board term will begin in August 2018.
