Join WP+D for a networking brown bag on Wednesday, October 18th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. to discuss professional development and career plans with this month's featured guest, Felicia Dawson, Director of Community Engagement at Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH).
Felicia takes great pride in building bridges between community residents and resources as her life’s work.
Felicia graduated from University of Missouri- Kansas City (UMKC), where she received a Bachelors in Urban Planning, she also obtained her Real Estate License. She later returned to UMKC and received her Masters of Public Administration with a special emphasis in Urban Administration and Nonprofit Financial Management.
Felicia accepted the position of Manager of Housing Development for Bethel New Life, Inc. In that position, she managed a housing portfolio of $1.2 million dollars that targeted development of new construction homes for moderate income families on the west side of Chicago. In one year, she was promoted to Director and redesigned the entire Community Building department from a single program focus to five operating programs. Later, she took the Program Officer position at the Steans Family Foundation, a multi-million dollar corporation that gives away $3.2 million dollars in grants to a targeted community on the west side of Chicago. There she was responsible for directing their field office and managing all of the operating programs for the foundation.
Later, Felicia embarked upon a new phase of her career as she became the Director of Community Building for The Community Builder’s Inc. (TCB). Her this roles Felicia was the liaison between development, property management and support services with a focus on the integration of community in all aspects of the work. She also raised $1 million in funding and managed a program a budget of $2.2 million dollars for program support and relocation services. There she worked with residents to form the first Neighborhood Association of any HOPE VI public housing transformation site in the city of Chicago.
Currently, Felicia is POAH's Director of Partnerships and Community Engagement for POAH. In this role her main focus has been developing and implementing a community engagement strategy to create avenues for neighbors and other community stakeholders to participate in the development process on various POAH projects.
This is a members-only event limited to five participants. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunches. Meeting area will be arranged in the Randolph Square on the 1st Floor of the Cultural Center.
As with every WP+D Small Networking Lunch, registration will open at 12:00 p.m. the first day of the month during which the lunch will be held. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and typically fill up quickly.

Due to the popularity of these lunches, we ask for a 48-hour cancellation notice if you are unable to attend. Failure to notify us will result in a 3 month suspension from the Networking Lunch series.
We ask that members register for no more than two consecutive lunches.
